Last week in N2S
Clifton 15-14 Dings Crusaders
After their 83-0 demolition of Newbury the previous week, Dings came down with a bump in this local derby. A close game all the way through until a penalty by Clifton stand off Chris Ashwin proved the difference between the two sides.
Hinckley 10-53 Southend
Table toppers Southend took only 4 minutes to cross new boys to N2S Hinckley’s line, and it was pretty much one way traffic all day. Full back Andy Frost contributing 23 points in their 7 try victory
Jersey 21-10 Worthing
2 tries from open side Steve O’Brian helped Jersey to this hard fought victory. Worthing were denied a try at the death as they looked to salvage a losing bonus point, but Jersey will be a hard place for anyone to get a result .
Newbury 18-43 Henley
Hawks’ full back James Combden contributed 13 points and centre Danny Wells 2 tries as Henley continued their impressive start to the season and condemned Newbury to 2 losses from 2
Old Albanians 39-23 Shelford
OA’s maintained their unbeaten start to live in N2S. Overturning a deficit of 13 points, OA’s second half display was the difference on the day. Two tries from wing Chris May contributed to a 39-23 win over win-less Shelford.
Taunton 30-19 Lydney
Lydney’s game was effectively over at half time, 24-5 down, there was no way back for the Forest of Dean side. Taunton recording their first win in N2S.
Westcombe Park 12-29 Canterbury
Local derby time at Goddington Dene, and Canterbury maintain the unbeaten start to the season. 2 tries for wing Michael Medford sealed the win by half time, ( 9-24) and with it the 4 try bonus point as well.
This weekend in N2S
Only 6 unbeaten teams, and 4 of them play against each other. – Probably the pick of the weekend’s games will be our visit to Southend as last years 4th plays 3rd!
Canterbury v Jersey
Despite Jersey’s close opening day win on the road, I think they will find Merton Lane a more difficult venue to win at. A close win , but the city side to come out on top . Home win by 10
Dings Crusaders v Westcombe Park
Combe may come away empty handed from their visit to Bristol. Home win by 20
Henley Hawks v Clifton
Hawks have started the season at a canter – Could it be Clifton’s backs v Hawks pack? Henley too good on this occasion and a win by 12 points.
Lydney v Newbury Blues
The Blues will be targeting this game as they look to kick start their season. Lydney better than their 2 results. A close home win by 8 points
Richmond v Taunton
Richmond played well on their visit to Vallis Way last week. They may be further tested by the Taunton pack, but should pull through by 10 points
Shelford v Hinckley
Another game that newcomers Hinckley will be targeting to get their season kick started. If Shelford click, it could be a long day for the Midlanders. Home win by 15
Worthing v Old Albanians
Another tight game as OA’s take their unbeaten record on the road. Home advantage to edge it. Raiders by 7
Southend v Ealing Trailfinders
Game of the day? Maybe. Too early to take about league winners, but it’s always nice to win all your games in September! Have Southend been tested? Can we played as poorly as we did last week? The answer to both questions is no. A tight game none the less, those who make the fewest mistakes will win the day . An away win by 7
