REPORT: Ealing Evergreens 0 – 14 London Irish Vets

A hard fought game that the Evergreens can be proud of being a part of!

Being in the middle of half-term and losing a few players to other teams is not the ideal start to what we knew would be a difficult game against a very good London Irish team. The same team, who are top of their Surrey league, play every week and have only lost one game narrowly against the Heavies this season. But into the breach all 16 of us fellow Ealing men went against what must have been enough Irish shirts to have two teams playing at once but one that they changed around in the second half to make it even harder for us.

Not deterred and showing a spirit that has cemented us as a truly great Ealing veteran’s team we just got stuck into what would be wave after wave of Irish pressure and with a tackle count from us that must have shocked and frustrated our guests. After the final whistle in which we only allowed Irish to score one try per half I believe every one of us walked away exhausted but proud of what we had achieved in a game that our opponents congratulated us for the determined hard working way we had played.

I’d also like to congratulate Greg Holdsworth for becoming the Evergreens February Player of the Month. Greg has been outstanding as a player this season but it’s his attitude to training and whole involvement in being an Ealing Vet that makes him deserve this month’s award.
