REPORT: Ealing Exiles 17 – 17 Former Exiles

On a pleasantly warm and sunny International afternoon the Exiles took to the first team pitch still looking for just their third win of the season, against a past Exiles side.

Barry had decided strategically to keep both teams drinking in O’Neill’s until 3am but this did not distract from the expansive rugby both sides tried to play.  The crowd were not disappointed and anyone watching would have thought it was more like a game of sevens.

The scoring was opened by Alex K who showed his pace to make a great try which he duly converted himself.  Lawrence was solid in midfield defence and scored an excellent individual try just before half time.

The Exiles took the opportunity to bring Noel ‘Junior’ off the bench for his first game at hooker.  He took 100% of his ball and it was good to see the Exiles continuing to bring on new front row players.

Mention must go to young Tom L and Fabio who in the true spirit of the Exiles played three matches in three days.  Thanks also to referee Mark Lynch who, after a short spell at Wasps has now returned to the club, and managed the game unobtrusively.

The final score meant the Exiles are still looking for a win in 2010, but a fine display of free running rugby (and beer) was on display.  The game ended in a draw, 17 points apiece.
