Ealing Trailfinders RFC has announced it is organising and hosting the first U20’s National Rugby Tournament at their Vallis Way Ground on Sunday 22nd April 2018.
The tournament will showcase the very best of Championship rugby’s U20’s – the star performers of tomorrow – in a 10-a-side day long competition. As well as the very best U20’s talent from the Greene King Championship, the day will involve specially selected invitational teams from around the UK fighting to win the day and to lift the inaugural trophy. There will also be a range of other sponsor backed prizes.
The Tournament will highlight the large number of young people involved in amateur rugby nationally and the great emerging talent within the individual clubs. The achievements of the national academy sections of Championship and National clubs often provide the pathway to a first team role and then to county and national level exposure as grassroots sports provides a platform for personal development and involvement in the wider sports community.
John Lacey, Ealing Trailfinders Academy Director noted that ‘ since we have been in the Championship, we have seen a vast number of participants work hard and train hard to be the very best they can and to excel. This U20’s celebration of rugby talent will allow them to perform for their individual clubs, for U20’s rugby generally and of course for their personal satisfaction. We’re proud to be starting what will become a respected annual youth rugby showcase – in addition to the National U20’s teams this will provide something new for the most talented teams to compete for.’
Ealing Club President, Dick Craig agrees. ‘ This is a terrific tournament plan and one which will become an annual fixture to celebrate U20’s talent and which will provide an opportunity to see the very best of the country’s future stars competing together. Driven from the grassroots and from the rugby community it will be an event with wide stream participation.’
