Concussion Management Series (Part 4 of 4)
- Stage 3 – Return…
Following a symptom-free, 14-day period of REST a formal Graduated Return To Play process must be followed…
The GTRP process should only be started when the Player:
- Has had 14 days rest
- Is symptom free
- Is off all medications that modify symptoms (eg painkillers)
- Has returned to work or studies
The four stages of the GTRP process are:
- Light aerobic exercise
- Sport specific exercise
- Non-contact training drills
- Full-contact practise
Each stage of the Adult GTRP is for a minimum of 24 hours.
If ANY symptoms occur while progressing through the GRTP the Player should rest for a minimum of 48 hours, until symptom free, and may then return to the previous stage.
On completion of the GTRP without the presence of symptoms and review by a Doctor the Player may return to playing in full contact.
