Advice on Player’s Kit

Personal Equipment

Gumshields

“Trainers and teachers of rugby, hockey, and lacrosse have a legal obligation to inform the parents of players to wear the correct custom made mouthguards.” Simon Beardsley – RFU Dental Officer

It is a club requirement that all children, regardless of age group, wear a protective mouth guard for both training and matches.

Ealing Trailfinders strongly recommends that all children are fitted with correct, custom-made mouth guards and, to this end, the club arranges, at the start of each season, for a nationally known manufacturer to visit the club in order to fit playing children. It is the team coaches’ responsibility to ensure that the players are wearing mouthguards, not the referee’s.

Head Gear/Scrum Caps

It is an RFU recommendation that children playing in the U9s and upwards wear IRB approved protective headgear. It is the team coaches’ responsibility to ensure that the players are wearing IRB kite marked head gear. Studs It is an CLUB requirement that all children wear IRB approved studs (with appropriate BS kite mark) for both training and matches. It is the team coaches’ responsibility to ensure that the players are wearing the correct studs, not the referee’s.

Playing Kit

Children are required to wear the correct playing uniform (shirt, shorts, socks) for all matches, triangulars and tournaments; this can be purchased from the club shop.

If you have a suspicion that a child may not be able to afford the correct playing kit, please speak to the Junior Rugby Chairman who may be able to assist in either locating second hand kit or providing some financial assistance.
