Academy A league campaign off to winning start

Ruislip v Ealing Trailfinders Academy A won 32 – 10

Heavy early morning rain and slate grey skies could have dampened our enthusiasm but the chance to get our league programme up and running was too good to miss.

Playing up the considerable slope and against the wind meant a tough 40 minutes was in store for the A squad, but they set about their task with alacrity, running some good possession and spreading the ball wide at every opportunity. Winger Rishi Enock-Gill was first to cross the whitewash, capping some really strong running with his first try of the season.

We failed to capitalise on some good possession and resolute Ruislip defence lead to an interception and long run in for the Maroon centre.

With attention focused again, fellow winger Yousif Shehabi carried on with his free scoring regaining the lead for Trailfinders, a fine finish by Full back Rassan Samms closed the half with Ealing 15-10 up

With the wind and slope in our favour and a plan to gain field position first off before playing the attacking brand we love, fly half Dan Clarke took a firm hold on the game and after scoring himself, imposed the pressure that also led to tries for skipper Will Day and scrum half George Hawkins.

The game finished in more heavy rain but also good spirits.

Welcome to debutant Teejay Ajuchi taking his bow for the Academy.

This weekend sees the Academy take on Bedford Blues Academy at Vallis Way on Saturday, with Farnham playing the Academy A on Sunday. Loads for us to do before then….

See you at training!
