Academy show sparkling form in National Cup victory

Ealing Trailfinders Academy 64 – 3 Trojans

The third round of the National Colts Cup pitched the young Trailfinders against Hampshire side Trojans in a rare home game at Vallis Way.

Playing on a bright still day was an invite to Ealing to play with ambition and width and the players did not disappoint, early pressure led to a couple of penalties, the second of which saw prop forward Chris Wells drive over a well worked lineout. Then came a period where winger Louis Walker could not be kept out of the game returning a quick fire hat trick of tries for the second time this season.

Four further tries were scored in what was probably our best half of rugby this season, with Marcus Lowe, Rasaan Samms and busy open side flanker Felix Leonard-Fox 2, getting on the score sheet.

Almost inevitably but certainly disappointingly we lost our concentration for a 20 minute period in the second period but good leadership from skipper Will Day got the team back on track and scores from Pat Nash, Lewis Steadman and flanker Tyler Bush who was outstanding on the day.

Altogether a very good performance from what can, on its day be a very exciting group of players. there were notable performances from others not on the score sheet with 2nd Row Nyall Wake reinforcing his place in the side with another tough tackling display and centre pairing Will Day and Dan Clarke gelling well.

Next week sees the Academy U20 take on local rivals London Scottish on Saturday with the Academy A playing Barnet Elizabethan on Sunday.
