REPORT: Ealing Cougars 46 – 19 Imperial College

Ealing Cougars came out on top of a tough match against newly promoted Imperial College.

The Cougars started well with Tom Byrne going over after a driving maul. Imperial College hit back with a try after some poor defending. Ealing then went into the lead again with a well taken try from Captain John Haigh. Slack defending again let Imperial college back into the game and at half-time the Cougars led 20 – 14.

Imperial College came out hard at the start of the second half and pinned Ealing back and scored a try to bring the match to 20 – 19 after the Cougars had a man sin-binned.

The Cougars scored a great solo try from Owen Price to extend the lead. Imperial College’s resistance finally crumbled and the Cougars ran in tries from Andy Jack, Eizo Higashi, Wayde Kelly and a great team try started by Ash Gillard who collected his own grubber kick to feed Owen Price to score his second try of the game and to make the final score a rather flattering 46 – 19.

Although not a vintage Cougars performance there were glimpses of the potential this side has got.

The Cougars will need to improve and face another tough test next week away to Rosslyn Park.
