For the season 2020/21 the Evergreens ceased competing for Ealing Trailfinders and transferred to Ealing Trailfinders 1871. See new team details HERE.

The Evergreens is Ealing Rugby Club’s veterans side and is made up of players who are 35 years or over. Players are welcomed from all over and it is testimony to Ealing Rugby Club’s success that many recent members of the Evergreen squad have joined us from various West London teams to supplement our home-grown talent. Thus, we are a happy ship flying a flag of convenience for anybody wishing to play a good standard of rugby throughout their 30s, 40s, 50s and occasionally older.

This year we will be playing competitive matches in the Middlesex Vets League & Cup with games against clubs like Wasps, Chiswick and UCS Old Boys as well as friendlies against old foes London Irish.

We have simple objectives:

  • To provide an appropriate vehicle to keep players in the game
  • To encourage lapsed players to return to rugby (including players from other clubs who do not have a vets team)
  • To compete at the highest standard possible
  • To field a regular side
  • To play good, competitive rugby
  • To tour
  • To keep it fun

The recent history of the Ealing Evergreens has been a tale of success on the field, winning the Middlesex Vets Merit Table for the past two years. Add to that success on tour in Rome (and occasionally also in the bar), but most notably success in harmonising a mixed group of older players. Good players simply love to carry on playing rugby.

Long may the Ealing brand of veterans rugby continue as a key force in West London.

You are never too old to join us! A few of us still train as well so join us for a look: Men’s Section training on Tuesdays and Thursdays with prompt start at 19:30.

REPORT: Ealing Evergreens 31 – 0 SODAM IIs

There was a pleasant positive vibe in an Evergreen team that has recently played some tremendous rugby and with the SODAM game giving us the opportunity to play our very best of the season. Unfortunately we lost a couple of players on the Friday night, but where very grateful for Barry Cousins filling the spare spot in the front row.

REPORT: Evergreens 17 – 3 Fullerians Vets

I’m sure this will read as an unusual match report as more happened off the park than on as we celebrated our very own Stephanie Maillefaud’s birthday, French style. But beforehand we had a rugby game to play and did so with a magnificent performance and our first double of the season against excellent visitors who turned up a few players short but were determined to play and honour the game, fortunately we had a few spare that happily played with Fullerians so it was game on.

REPORT: Beaconsfield Vets 36 – 12 Ealing Evergreens

After a stressful week of knowing that we would struggle to get a full 15 to play on Saturday due to losing players who were coaching at the Eithad Cup, injuries picked up from our previous Saturday’s titanic game and a call up for Ben Hesketh from the Cougars we importantly decided to honour the game with 11 players.
