Welcome 2020 / 2021 Ealing Under 12s
The U12 squad consists of boys of mixed ability and we welcome new joiners of any level of experience. If your child is currently in Year 7 at school, they are in the U12 age group.
The U12s train once a week on Sundays from 12:15 (for a 12:30 start) to 13:45. Matches are also played on Sundays, and we usually enter teams into several festivals throughout the year, as well as the Middlesex U12 Championships – a competition created to help young players develop their rugby and help bridge the divide between Mini and Youth Rugby.
In terms of philosophy and approach, we ensure that all children and parents follow the RFU’s core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship (TREDS). Read more about the RFU’s Core Values here.
We also ensure that we comply with the RFU’s Age-Grade Rugby initiative (Learn More). U12s normally play 12 a side contact rugby, with 5 player scrums (contested strike but not push), rucks and mauls, and kicking.
This year, with the challenges of Covid-19, we are following the RFU’s Return to Rugby Roadmap and associated guidelines – a phased approach to enable a safe return to grassroots rugby training and match play. Hence the range of activities will depend on the stage reached on the RFU roadmap – for example, the season started with predominantly touch rugby (Ready4Rugby). For more information see the RFU Coronavirus website.
If your son would like to try rugby out, then please let us know. We have no waiting list at the club and you are welcome to come along and try out a training session, without obligation, to see if rugby is of interest to your child.
